US: The ready-mix concrete and heavy building materials producer Knife River Corporation has appointed Patricia Chiodo to its board of directors. Chiodo will serve on the board's audit and compensation committees. The company says that she brings a ‘wealth of financial expertise.’ She previously held the position of chief financial officer at Verra Mobility Corporation, from which she stepped down in 2022, prior to which she was chief financial officer at RSC Holdings. Chiodo is also a member of UNS Energy Corporation’s audit committee and has served on the audit committee of Embark Technology.

Knife River Corporation chair Karen Fagg said "Tricia is an accomplished business leader with experience in corporate strategy, mergers and acquisitions, risk management and capital markets. When we chose to expand the board and add another independent director, we were looking for someone with Tricia's combination of financial expertise, experience with public companies and proven skills as a team builder. She is a great addition to the board, and we look forward to working with her as we continue to grow Knife River."

Switzerland: Holcim has acquired recycling, ready-mix concrete and aggregates company Cand-Landi Group. The company employs 250 people across its operations in Western Switzerland. Holcim plans for Cand-Landi Group to supply alternative raw materials and fuels for use at its Eclépens plant. It says that the acquisition will increase its recycling capacity of construction and demolition materials by 100,000t/yr.

Holcim CEO Miljan Gutovic said "The acquisition of the Cand-Landi Group will advance decarbonisation and circularity in Switzerland, a lighthouse market for innovation at Holcim. I look forward to welcoming all 250 employees of the Cand-Landi Group and investing in our next chapter of growth together."

Thailand: Siam Technic Concrete has acquired prestressed concrete products company Wangconcrete outright for US$2.66m. MarketLine News has reported that the deal is intended to expand Siam Technic Concrete’s customer base and business channels, including bringing it in to Southern Thailand.

South Korea: Sampyo Industry has unveiled its new BLURCON Rain OK concrete. The company says that the concrete delivers consistent strength and quality even when poured in rainy conditions, thanks to its anti-washout technology. Its water-soluble polymers and optimised materials increase its viscosity and adhesion to reinforcing bars. Hyundai Engineering & Construction, HDC Hyundai Development Company, Hyundai Engineering and GS Engineering & Construction also collaborated in developing the product.
