Jurong Port commissions ready-mixed concrete ecosystem
04 December 2024Singapore: Jurong Port has officially launched its Ready-Mixed Concrete (RMC) Ecosystem, a complex of five ready-mix concrete plants. The RMC Ecosystem integrates 11 aggregates plots and a neighbouring cement terminal at the port.
Holcim Costa Rica inaugurates Agua Caliente ready-mix concrete plant
04 December 2024Costa Rica: Holcim Costa Rica has inaugurated a new US$650,000, 25m3/hr ready-mix concrete plant in Agua Caliente, Cartago. The El Financiero newspaper has reported that the new plant is equipped to produce Dynamax high-performance concrete and ECOCycle circular concrete. The plant will employ 13 people, including Costa Rica’s first women concrete mixer truck drivers.
CEO Natalia Soler noted the convenient proximity of the concrete plant to its 1.1Mt/yr Agua Caliente cement plant.
Maharashtra Pollution Control Board issues new guidelines for ready-mix concrete plants in Mumbai
04 December 2024India: The Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) has released new guidelines for ready-mix concrete plants situated in Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). The Free Press Journal newspaper has reported that the new guidelines require new static plants within municipal limits to obtain special MPCB approval, while new and existing plants outside of municipal limits must establish a 500m buffer zone. New ready-mix concrete plants at building sites must have a minimum project area of 2000m2 and existing ones must fully enclose their operations. Plants at building sites must dismantle their operations within a month after completing 70% of works at the site. Operators of ready-mix concrete plants in MMR must additionally provide new bank guarantees in favour of the MPCB.
The move purportedly aims to reduce air pollution in Mumbai. 11 of 26 monitoring stations in the city recorded poor air quality on 2 December 2024. Poor air quality indicates a high concentration of PM2.5 or PM10 inhalable particulate matter, which are present in smog.
Cemex España expands electric fleet
22 November 2024Spain: Cemex España has purchased two additional electric concrete mixer trucks (e-mixers) for its fleet. Alimarket-Construcción News has reported that one e-mixer will operate at the San Fernando ready-mix concrete batching plant in Madrid and the other at the Sant Just ready-mix concrete batching plant in Barcelona.
Cypriot ready-mix concrete workers strike for higher overtime wages
22 November 2024Cyprus: Ready-mix concrete workers are continuing a now two-week-long strike to demand higher rates of pay for overtime work. PhileNews has reported that the strikers are seeking an increase from 1.25 times the base rate to 1.4 times for weekdays and 1.8 times for weekends. They have reportedly rejected a compromise proposal by the government.
Cementos Argos launches four new ready-mix concrete plants in Bogotá
21 November 2024Colombia: Cementos Argos has inaugurated four new ready-mix concrete batching plants in Bogotá. One plant is fixed and the other three are mobile, with a combined investment value of US$1.59m. Cementos Argos says that it has gained 276,000m3/yr in additional capacity as result.
Cementos Argos Colombia Central manager Alexander Pedraza said "The mobility situation in Bogotá has challenged us to innovate and develop solutions that allow us to be ever closer to our customers.”
Malaysia: Meta Bright Group subsidiary Expogaya Group has won a contract for the supply of concrete to developer Megamas Jaya. Megamas Jaya will use the concrete in its 88 Avenue Kepayan mixed-purpose development in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. The producer reported the value of the contract as US$13.4m.
Meta Bright Group’s executive director of corporate and strategic planning, Derek Phang, said "As the largest ready-mix concrete supplier in the region, we are proud to contribute to the infrastructure growth that is vital to Sabah’s continued economic expansion."
Ready-mix concrete plants in Mumbai face possible closure orders
08 November 2024India: Environmental organisation Earth NGO has filed a public interest litigation petition for the closure of ready-mix concrete plants operated by Dev Infra, JSW Green Cement and Shri Lalit Nagpal in Mumbai’s Chembur and Govandi suburbs. The Free Press Journal newspaper has reported that Earth NGO alleges that the plants are failing to comply with air pollution rules, including by being situated close to residential buildings and a hospital.
The Maharashtra Pollution Control Board previously closed down one of the plants temporarily following protests in 2023. This reportedly led to a decline in pollution levels.
Cematrix secures new contracts worth US$4.45m
01 November 2024Canada: Cellular concrete products company Cematrix has closed US$4.45m in new supply deals since July 2024, GlobeNewswire has reported. The contracts all cover projects in North America, most of which are scheduled for completion later in 2024.
President and CEO Jeff Kendrick said “With the addition of these new contracts, net of sales to the end of September 2024, our current backlog now stands at US$53.6m."
Interbeton launches Velter circular ready-mix concrete
25 October 2024Greece: Titan Cement Group subsidiary Interbeton has launched Velter, a circular, 30% reduced-CO2 ready-mix concrete. The product comes with a Type III environmental product declaration from Eurocert.
Director of concrete operations Christoforos Voulgaris said "This new product line gives engineers, architects, builders and investors the opportunity to differentiate their projects with improved durability and a meaningful contribution to mitigating the effects of climate change.”
